I Only Want To Say (Gethsemane) - TED NEELY
JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR
"I Only Want To Say" is an introspective song from the 1970 album and 1971 rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar written by Andrew Lloyd Webber (music) and Tim Rice (lyrics), an emotionally charged power ballad brilliantly sung by Ted Neely in portrayal of Jesus Christ at the Garden of Gethsemane.
Jesus Christ Superstar is a 1973 American musical drama film directed by Norman Jewison and jointly written for the screen by Norman Jewison and Melvyn Bragg. They based their screenplay on the 1970 rock opera of the same name, the libretto of which was written by Tim Rice and whose music was composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Jesus Christ Superstar is the story of the humanity of Jesus Christ. It portrays the human side of Jesus as he experiences the different facets of human emotions of love, fear, anger, hurts, doubts, frustrations, and abandonment. This human aspect of Jesus is portrayed in the musical from the point of view of the closest people around him.
The Gethsemane portion was the most intense and passionate part of the musical. It expresses the magnanimity of the Divine Love of God for all of mankind; who despite the petition of Jesus to withdraw the cup of suffering; didn’t withheld His Beloved Son from mortal death for our sake.
